“While working on my undergraduate degree, I found my classes very demanding and spent hours on work that took the rest of my classmates less than half the time. Those five years were the longest years of my life. I didn’t think I would ever graduate. Nevertheless, I was convinced to start graduate school. During this time, a colleague discussed the possibility of being dyslexic.

I found Sherry and we spent a year and a half working on reading and spelling. Sherry’s tutoring helped me improve in my:

    • communication
    • language pronunciation
    • ability to read faster (without skipping over words)
    • ability to understand words by breaking them into syllables
    • ability to stump parents and friends about basic grammar
    • confidence in reading and writing

Tutoring has really improved multiple skills as a student as well as an employee. In December of 2011, I will graduate with my master’s degree. I HIGHLY recommend Sherry’s tutoring services.”

Tanya Roberts, graduate student, Oakland, CA

Dyslexia is not rare. According to the National Institutes of Health, dyslexia affects about 20% of the population, or 1 in 5 individuals.

Definition of Dyslexia from the International Dyslexia Association

“Dyslexia is a neurologically-based, often familial, disorder which interferes with the acquisition and processing of language. Varying in degrees of severity, it is manifested by difficulties in receptive and expressive language, including phonological processing, in reading, writing, spelling, handwriting, and sometimes in arithmetic. Dyslexia is not the result of lack of motivation, sensory impairment, inadequate instructional or environmental opportunities, or other limiting conditions, but may occur together with these conditions.

Although dyslexia is lifelong, individuals with dyslexia frequently respond successfully to timely and appropriate intervention.”
